Portal to Justice

A multimedia project in collaboration with SISTA Fire. This is a collection of collages made by community participants in workshop sessions to respond to the prompt ‘what does Justice look like to you?’. Collages are turned into large Justice tarot cards, an ongoing series. These are accompanied by a sound piece of community reflections of justice. All elements come together into a visual and sound sculpture called the Justice Portal; a wooden or metal structure where the tarot cards, sound piece, and flowers are woven together. Community is invited to embody walking through and into Justice.

Begin this exploration by playing the sound piece below and viewing the tarot cards. The sound piece is a container of reflections of what Justice means to us, by SISTA Fire members and sound design by Shey Rivera Ríos. The Justice Cards have been created by SISTA Fire members, credit to: Alexa, Adria, Charmaine, Selene, Nicole, Priscilla, and Keyanna. Audio reflections by: Charmaine, Adria, Nicole, Priscilla, and Rachael.

The Justice Portal has been installed in Providence, RI, at various community gatherings: SISTA Fire Justice Circle (2022), The Haus of Glitter’s The Historical Fantasy of Esek Hopkins performance run (2022), Providence Commemoration Lab - former Columbus Square Land Blessing Gathering (2024), and SISTA Fire Liberated Circle (2024).
